It was not much, but it was more than she'd anticipated. More than she'd had in weeks. The way he had given it up without so much as a flash of teeth - no fight, no caveat - would have been suspicious to Starling had she been mindful enough to notice. For now she was hungry, and being fed that meal only incited further desire in her.
She turned her attention to him carefully, in flashes of want, and saw a softening in his own face that didn't make sense to her. He looked sorry, somehow. Sad, too. Was that pity? Did he feel pity for her? Why? A bristling crept up her heels, quilled the thin fur at her shoulders, before she turned away from him to shuffle some more in the dirt.
There was nothing else out here. Snorting softly to clear her nostrils of the scent of loam, wet grass, fern, pine, and wolf.. Starling slipped among the shadows as if to leave him there, unless something changed.
