a dance with hunger - Wardruna - 3/25/2026 For Oberon
skill: naturalist The time of darkness still hung heavy on the land. The light of Sun long tucked away. Even goddess Moon's gentler rays could not be found and Wardruna could only ponder how many souls had lost their way without her guiding light. Northfall held still, yet it was by the remaining presence of their prey that they survived. When scouting the Alpine, the great caribou herd had moved south. Elk and deer likely so before them. They would find luck if they were to catch the trail of ox or moose. For now, their livelihood was placed in the hearts of the mountain goat and ram which scattered across their mountain tops. Wardruna could hear them now, a crack of keratin sheaths echoing through the mountains as she walked the foothills of their northern most peaks. Wardruna was not the best of hunters. She could be quite clumsy when in a rush and her uses were best offered on flat ground at the end of a run during the take down where brute force was put to work. The Queen questioned perhaps one day she might test her luck on the coast again but laughed at the thought of it. RE: a dance with hunger - Oberon - 3/25/2026 Darkness continued to envelope the land, blanketing the world in nothing but snow and ice. The wind had died down this day, bringing at least some comfort to the wolves of Northfall. But there was still the problem of finding food; the bigger animals fleeing to the south in order to survive the long winter. Rams and sheep still continued to spread across the mountain tops with great luck. But even so, how long would that sustain them? Oberon had been scouting the vast territories of the mountains, keeping tabs on the prey populations to keep his mind from wandering too deep into the abyss. Every so often, his nose would lead him to another pack member. But not close enough for him to engage. Not that he disliked company, but the dark knight still wasn't sure exactly what to do when it came to forming relationships. Past mistakes have kept him solitary, with only the red wolf with the green eyes to keep him partially sane. Still he kept her at bay, afraid that she would suffer the same fate as the last girl he tried to save. Oberon kept telling himself it was better this way. But it was even harder to believe it without the shadow of a doubt. Even with his more forced solitary way of being, there was still no denying the companionship of his queen if she so wished it. Oberon caught her scent almost immediately, seeing her earthen form in the distance before long. Keeping silent, blue eyes simply watched her from afar, learning more about her from a safe distance as best he could. If she decided to call for him? Well no escaping what might be fate. Simple as that. RE: a dance with hunger - Wardruna - 4/2/2026 skill: naturalist Wardruna walked along the mountain paths quietly. Her thick tan and cream tail a gentle sway at her hocks. At some point the wind would stir around her and she would take note of Oberon's presence. Black-backed ears turned back, listening, but she pushed onto forward without word. He played the role of quiet companion for a time. At least until Wardruna decided to shift her direction. It was cold enough already and dark⦠and the further up they went. Well, an unnecessary risk if one wasn't hunting just yet. But she knew now where the sheep herd had moved to in the mountains. They won't leave their home unless they absolutely must. Northfalls mountains are as much the home of the goat and sheep herds as it is our own. They were just as stubborn of creatures. Just as bull-headed, reluctant to leave what was theirs. The goat and ram fit the viking wolves quite well. If they leave, we are to follow them. Her olive eyes passed over the chocolate and creamy coated wolf, wondering his thoughts on this. RE: a dance with hunger - Oberon - 4/2/2026 The Queen was quiet and observant, carrying a regal and thoughtful air as she moved through the rocky terrain. Oberon watched as her eyes trailed the sheep and goats as they moved into higher and deeper elevations. It wasn't until they had gotten a bit closer, that her ears turned to him and slowly her full on attention. A talk of the herds possibly moving caught his attention, his mind going over the information and what drastic measures might need to be taken. We will follow them where ever we need to. But we must make sure that no one is left behind, and that the others are able to follow. There cannot be any sacrifices unless truly necessary.Regardless of how much he either did or did not step out of line, she needed to know where he stood on the matter. RE: a dance with hunger - Wardruna - 4/12/2026 skill: leader Of course. She answered quickly, simply. She would never have any intention of leaving any of her people behind. Especially so as a woman who had been left behind by many in her life. They had gone, moved on and here in these frozen heights Wardruna had remained. She hoped that Northfall would continue to be safe. Others had not had this luxury. They had the benefit of being northerners so they were used to the cold but, even northerners could freeze, could starve. I would like you to focus your duties on hunting. With this freeze, even the northern creatures out in the tundra move further south now. Serafina as I have been told is a fine hunter. You may do well to partner with her.She instructed. Wardruna had yet to give him any formal place within the pack. While some quite enjoyed to fill the roles where needed so not to fall into the same mundane tasks, others enjoyed structure and discipline. Wardruna did not know Oberon wholly, but felt this in the former warrior. RE: a dance with hunger - Oberon - 4/14/2026 Wardruna seemed to take his words to heart, agreeing quite readily with his suggestions and guidance. His Queen then gave further thought, locking eyes with him every so often before casting her gaze back to the frozen mountain landscape. The name of another left her lips, a member known as Serafina. A task to keep up with the food caches was now the of the utmost importance for the pack. If they could avoid leaving the safety of Northfall, Oberon would do his best to keep it that way. I will seek her out then. I don't see any reason for us to fail, but we will be diligent in our task. The pack will not go hungry to the best of our abilities.Oberon looked to Wardruna, wondering what she had been through in her young life. What secrets she kept close to her chest. But decided against asking until he knew her far better. What else can I do for you, Queen Wardruna? What more can you tell me of this Serafina?Ever the business minded wolf, Oberon would do his best to not get too attached. Not not let anyone get too close. Things were just easier that way. For him and for everyone. |
