Hunters need rest too - Lykaon - 3/29/2026

Lestan tan

Lykaon moved through the loam and the soil. Hunters grace, quiet as he walked. Yellow eyes on the horizon. The scent of fowl deep in his nose. He would find this elusive bird. He had been tracking it for more time than he normally liked. But it was wily.

Hunter and prey. They danced and learned. And he would win. Even if it took patience, time. But he was stopped short by the borders of a pack and he froze.

With a sigh he backed up. He settled to his haunches far enough away he would not be harmed. He was weary. He stared at the peaceful place. Perhaps it was time to find a home.

life went on.
the changes around camhanaich did not stop their hunting, nor their prayers, nor their celebrations. it did not stop their growing number nor the games of his children. each day was the man reminded of his own splendid blessings and for that reason he pressed ahead with less anxiety than before.
it was a steadier mayfair that greeted the wise-eyed man with the forest-pretty coat. h-hello, he called with a wave of his tail. you have found camhanaich, land of the druids. carefully he drew closer, blinking honeyblue eyes to signal a friendly heart. m-might i help you with something?
he must remember to take his chamomile.

Lykao closed his eyes to enjoy the warmth if the sun. Spring was fast upon them. New shoots, new leaves, new life. All wound in the circle that continued to move.

He very seldom stopped to simply enjoy. He preferred the pounding of feet on the ground. The chase. The singular moments when you held life in the balance. When you moved to attain greater things. When you hunted to survive. He never took more than he gave.

Yellow eyes met the soft blues of another. A smile lit up his eyes.

forgive me. I had been chasing a rather impressively smart fowl and it led me here. Being that I daren't cross your borders. I decided to just rest.

A bow of his head. Lykaon Ardeth at your service.

oh! n-never mind that, said the druid with a cheery look to match the one offered by this stranger. i am lestan mayfair. it is good to m-meet you, lykaon. or do you prefer mr ardeth? asked lestan, wishing to be polite.
have you been traveling a long while? my mate, kirain -- we are the toisiche of this place. hospitality is paramount to the wolves of druid's rise, declared the man, finding a good humour in him for how easy that smile had been.

Lykaon shifted. Well met Lestan. Lykaon is just fine.

He tilted his head to tweak his ear towards the soft spoken man. I have been hunting around the area and beyond for a few months

Lykaon looked around. It is beautiful here

I am a fair hunter. And I'm looking to settle if you are looking for new. Otherwise. Id be willing to take a rest.

well-met. and h-how about both? suggested the witch with a beam, sitting down to indicate that they were at rest. camhanaich believes in the l-living earth and the spirits beyond. it is how we raise our children. each h-here is a member of our kith and family.
the man was a hunter by practice and a guardian by build, but lestan had learned not to judge in such ways.
perhaps in heart he was a healer, a singer, a caretaker. perhaps he wished to roam the borders alone. w-will you tell me a little about yourself, lykaon?

Lykaon met the other man with warm yellow eyes. Patience etched in thr lines of his face. Hoping that Lestan knew he was fine with as much time it took the man to speak.

Lykaon chuckled. Im not usual one that talks much about myself. I don't care much for boasting. But let's see

Kaon took a breath and thought about what to say. He scratched a paw through the dirt.

I was raised in forest with large family. My dad usually chases all familial males out about 1.5 years old. I am a hunter and trader. I don't know how to explain how much I love to hunt. Evwrything about it. I'm protective and I try to be kind wherever I go.

lykaon did not boast, true to his expression of self. he described a man raised traditionally, to be sent away and to become skilled in the dispersement. lestan did not like to think of a young wolf leaving their family; as a father, he would prefer if all his three remained within this land their lives entire.
but life did not always suggest softness or ease.
already y-you embody several of our values, lykaon. y-yes, said the druid definitively, come and live among us. th-the game is plentiful, and we are in the process of m-making several alliances where y-your trading would be a boon.
tail thumped on the ground behind him, and the witch hoped that the other would see the worth of this arrangement.

Lykaon didn't fully understand why his father had chosen the ways he had. And he would be a liar if he said it didn't hurt to leave his mama and his sisters. And he wasn't entirely sure what it even changed, when he allowed his sister's to bring men into the fold. Just not have male pups stay. It was a strange thing to be true.

Lykaon thought about the suggestion for a moment. he could do that. It would be nice to belong to something again. That was true enough. A definitive nod. I'd think I'd like that if you were sure you're alright with it. Don't want to be a bother. I have some pelts already nearby. I can bring them. Perhaps you and your family can find some use for them. A small smile.
