You beautiful baby from the outside in - Will-o'-Wisp - 5/11/2026 Backdated to roughly 4/20, official return from Eastborne, looking for Kobold and Lichen in particular but Howff members welcome!
Wendi would take care of Selkie, of this, Will-o had no doubt. She'd seen a relationship foster between them in the short months they'd all been holed up in the cabin together in this new life, seen the beast grow close with several of his newfound littermates, in fact. He liked 'treasure-hunting' with Kobold, liked riling up Honor, liked when Lichen was at his side being her eerie self, liked sitting in the quiet nest with Grim. They were safe under his watchful eye. She might have been a little worried on what he'd be feeding the wee lad, but... nothing she could do about that now but hope he had sense. Wisp's part was hurrying home as quickly as she and Sarge could manage to the babes that still remained. She hadn't seen any others in the battle, but somewhere on the way home it occurred to her.... What if her other whelps had simply taken the other portals? There was relief, as she finally caught sight of the cabin and limped on a little quicker. Her leg hurt a bit more than she'd expected, but, well, that's what happened when you hung from the arm by your own full weight from the jaws of a much larger canine. It'd be fine -- she already had a limp to it. If it got worse, she'd never notice. She wondered how badly it would hurt if she had the full reign of feeling. The relief puttered a little as she pushed her way past the door and scented only two of her children. Wendi and Selkie she'd expected, but the stale scents of Honor and Grim were a smack in the face. No,she whispered, voice thick, pressing into Sarge's side as if to keep herself from toppling. Was... she supposed to search for them? Fucks sake, she'd thought the plague's defeat was the end of her being torn in several directions at once. She thought she would get to go have a normal sort of life. Be... happy, maybe. Mythris kept laughing at her. Nae m'babies.Wisp's voice warbled against tears budding in her gaze. In the next instant, she was tearing off up the staircase two steps at a time, tail bristled and arching high. Kobold, she called, not caring if she woke others, Lichen! She skittered around the corner haphazardly, her white claws scrabbling desperately against the wood as she careened for their corner. Màthair an' Vater are home, wee loves! RE: You beautiful baby from the outside in - Kobold - 5/12/2026 RE: You beautiful baby from the outside in - Lichen - 5/21/2026 RE: You beautiful baby from the outside in - Will-o'-Wisp - 5/31/2026 Kobold, of course, came first, with all his fiery energy and rabid excitement. Wisp, personally, would've accepted a collision but instead the moment her son managed to skid to a halt, she halted herself and folded to plop down onto her stomach at whelp-level. Lichen came trailing after her brother (the wrong brother, she should've been with Wendi), eyes like little pink saucers.
She wanted to snatch them up and yank them close and smother them into the plushness of her coat and never let go. At least they were here. They were okay. Alive, in once piece, accounted for. Properly child-like. Wisp's heaving breaths could begin to slow. She didn't snatch any of her kids close against their wills, but she did reach out with her forelegs to invite them closer; to climb on her, to hug her, to lay with her, anything -- she just missed them, just wanted to press close to their soft little pelts and tuck them safely against her belly like they were young little babies again. They always would be, to her. Kobold had been busy, apparently, and was ready to tell her about it as he pounced about and sniff-inspected her. He and Lonán had hunted a possum? Will-o smiled back, pleased despite her anxiety. Now tha' i's nae so cold, ah'll be able tae take ye kids outside fer proper lessons. You'll be ahead o' everyone else 'den, aye? There was only so much one could learn in a crowded ass inn with any great number of distractions. Outside in wide spaces, in the fresh breeze, with the smells knocking at your nose, the kids would learn better and probably have more fun. And, of course, they both had questions. Or really Kobold had a flood of them, but even her quiet little girl wanted to know what had happened. Gods, it was easier to talk about hunting and lessons and the future, but the truth was, she didn't know what the future looked like. Kobold asked what was wrong. Lots an lots, she answered them both with a weary sigh. As much as Wisp wanted them still to be her little bitty babies, the fae children were starting to grow up. Have their own thoughts. Ideas. Saved th' world an ah great big guy chained tae an island. How much was she supposed to tell them? Growing they might've been, but that didn't equate to understanding. Mythris is properly balanced again. She thought. She hoped. It seemed so, at least, save for the fact that everyone now had to make their ways home and find those lost to them. Or... wait for them to come back. Hope they could come back. Yer siblings, she choked out, ears pinning, Did'ya see where they went?Portals, she assumed, but perhaps they'd just wandered off and were floating about the woods somewhere. The thought was terrifying, and she was irritated she didn't know if anyone had bothered looking in on the whelps or even had anyone been home to, but it was better than not having a single solitary idea as to where her children could be. Christ, had they been eating? Drinking? Are ye hungry? Thirsty? Everythin' oh-kay? |
