gerehet - Satakhetem - 5/24/2026 There was much to think about and plenty of time, given that she was stuck within her quarters for the time being. They were a fine enough space, especially after having the court waste time and resources in modifying them. The painted man Kwetau had finally finished the triple-sun, and ducked out as dusk settled; but that then left Satakhetem alone and in the company of the spacious room, the obsidian decorations, and a high-cut window she could not reach even if she stood as tall as possible upon her hinds. The shaft of silverlight cast off-center of the triple-sun. Khaemwaset was poised in the top-center, the focal point. His sphere was marked with gold and in to the wall was etched his mark; to the right and left were twin spheres, one a ring with no core, like a closed eye, inlaid with pearlescent shell; the other was wide open in opposition and the center held a core of vibrant blue, like the sky. All was diluted to a hazy gray by the starlight. The shell that was Merneith did not shine, and the gold inlay of Khaemwaset looked like rust brown in the darkness. A slow smile came upon Satakhetem as she sprawled back upon her bedspread, unable to sleep. RE: gerehet - Ashait - 5/24/2026 it is common knowledge among mazoi which room houses amiirad satakhetem's cell- for no matter how hospitable the furnishings, it is still a prison. ashait performs her duty when it is asked of her. she has already borne the dubious pleasure of her company and sees no need to embroil herself within it anew. curiosity, though, keeps her returning, to seek out word or sound. it is a precarious position for Pharaoh now, and so a precarious position for the young Goddess as well. and perhaps it is wrong of her, to mislike Divine blood simply for the tongue that wields it. in the vision of Pharaoh and Queen's united disdain, she does not much care. legend has run. her once-Pharaoh husband with her and no few fellahin. an unquestionable problem for the future. khaemwaset is left with no children to claim- not even the ones jodai had hoped he might. and now there is amiirad satakhetem. a fool, bumbling her way through an attempt at political maneuvering which would have deserved only laughter, had she been any other noble- but any fool with the weight of Divine right behind them must be treated as a threat. now, in the dark of night, she passes before the entrance, eye glittering in starlight. beyond, with the sense of a serpent, amiirad's heat-shape lays sprawled upon the bed. ashait's tongue flickers. she wishes she might unsheathe her fangs and be done with it. RE: gerehet - Satakhetem - 5/24/2026 It is no small thing, inviting oneself in to the confines of the goddess' quarters. The serpent is a skilled spy. She is small enough to be missed, silent, and carries within her grasp a swift defense mechanism. There is no reason for Satakhetem to think she is being observed except in the case of her guards, who are often present just outside of her space, and that alone keeps her from voicing any of her thoughts aloud. It also means she is oblivious to the approaching danger, if Ashait decides to take matters in to her own power. Satakhetem rolls over to one side, then to her front, and sits up. She does it simply to have movement. It is boring here with all of this finery, and without anyone to keep her company. The fear she believes she has instilled within her siblings has caused a distinct rift between them. An unfortunate side-effect of the truth. A sigh ruptures the air; the woman surveys her room, perhaps considering further changes, when she takes note of the surprising shine to a particular patch of shadow. A smile draws across her face, finally. Mazoi, she does not know the serpent's name, and did not care for it during their transit of the sands. Now though, there is a spark of interest. RE: gerehet - Ashait - 5/25/2026 she is not sure what does it- whether it is the stillness of night that betrays the hiss of her scales or the wispy yellow-white that has taken to curling from her on occasion in the return of the sun, but she will not soon forget amiirad satakhetem's voice. "amiirad." inflectionless. blank-faced as any serpent might be, ashait straightens, lifting sinuous body from the floor. the cloak of her hood and the blades of her fangs sheathed and hidden; a thing for amiirad's comfort. the Divine is still the Divine. it is not proper to bare teeth. should Pharaoh give the command- a wolf's growl, or a cobra's flared hood, is a warning before striking. ashait will not give such a thing. "i will summon a fellahin, if there is something you require." RE: gerehet - Satakhetem - 5/25/2026 Being called amiirad so often might have been grating, had she expected anything else. In truth Satakhetem was accustomed to it. She had always been amiirad; her last memories had been as a child in the palace, and there she had been amiirad, so to have each person she encountered of Satriya using it as some kind of attempt at insult was simply... amusing. It wasn't wrong, and so she did not get angry. She watched as the serpent moved, as she drew closer. I only require news of the outside world, so to speak. She smiles in that thin, frigid way. The fellahin speak of a wedding. Has my brother decided to take a second bride? RE: gerehet - Ashait - 5/25/2026 she would be curious, would she not? the pressure is great, for Pharaoh to take this second wife. but she believes he will not do it. he will not take amiirad satakhetem, certainly not when she arrived so gracelessly; and another too would be insult to Queen, if perhaps less grave. a concubine, perhaps, if jodai forces him to see wisdom- and if he accepts that wisdom. before, there was hope it would not be needed. now, with legend gone, perhaps it will be a search party instead. ashait sees amiirad in the dark only as heat, and as life; the smile itself, she hears only in passing, stretched about the words as a glittering blade. "jodai is to be wed to sitamun in the coming weeks." she thinks the fellahin both canny and wise enough to weave through such an encounter, should amiirad choose to pull her aside. of Pharaoh and Queen, ashait keeps her silence. RE: gerehet - Satakhetem - 5/25/2026 sitamun, sitamun... oh! the fellahin from the night before. ah, i see. so my brother cultivates his servants. they are sure to produce good stock.sapair was a strong man with old ties; what she had learned of sitamun was her strong loyalty, and both worked well together. i had thought the pharaoh would take the princess. that wild one, the mazoi? if not for heirs, then for leverage. her father - he is divine as well, yes? RE: gerehet - Ashait - 5/29/2026 ashait suspects the union of jodai and fellahin is not truly what amiirad wishes to talk about. indeed, the topic turns swiftly back to pharaoh- and the matter of aiesha. ashait remembers the girl; royal in blood, and mazoi in deed and word. she does not believe her capable of any sort of desire for the throne. no, if that were the case, she would scarce be so eager to wander out into the desert. what she does believe is that aiesha is naive enough to be used in this way. or she would not have laughed so when ashait had mentioned marriage- as though she had never heard such a thing! she cocks her head. "if Pharaoh desires her as wife, it is not known to me. i believed him more likely to use her for alliance." if she can be so convinced... which ashait suspects will not happen. she may well cast aside title before that comes to pass. |
