Little white flowers - Osamu - 8/17/2026 For Silence The mainland, while annoying to reach, admittedly possessed a far greater variety of herbs and prey than their island offered. While he was no talented herbalist, Osamu did try to keep an eye on their stores to the best of his (limited) ability; he noted they were low on a few of their more uncommon plants and thought to replenish them. Problem was, the details were already getting fuzzy. What was the precise leaf shape again? Were they pointy, or smooth? He remembered little white flowers... but so many herbs had little white flowers, Osamu groaned inwardly. If he'd been smart he would have taken a sample with him, but it was too late now and he had no intention of paddling back and forth several more times. He'd just grab whatever he could find and hope none of it was poisonous. Head low to the ground, the Samurai decided to trust his nose on this matter and hoped he might recognize its scent. Distant thunder rumbled overhead as a steady drizzle began. It was going to be a long afternoon. RE: Little white flowers - Silence - 8/17/2026 Silence had to live up to her name. The world she came from demanded it. Wolves in Kahrim were not kind, and the best way to spare one's own life was to avoid detection completely. This is why she was given her name: it was an instruction, a plea, and a verdict all in one. 'You are not Willpower, you cannot Overcome. You do not have the Vigor to become more than what you are.' Silence is all she would ever be. It was all that could save her. Of course, she would have to go against this. How else could she survive in that hellish den of sin? Even a mouse needs to eat, needs a place to rest it's head in the cold night. So, Silence spoke, and she sought out. This undid her. It would continue to undo her. Memories and moments whipped by her as she ran. She ran endlessly, for Silence could persevere. Until the grunting of what chased her fell far away. All that met her then was the fog, to which she ran through as well- only to find herself falling. When, how, she didn't know. Exhaustion pulled at the corners of her mouth, stifling any scream that threatened to break loose. Death felt more like a mercy than it did a sentencing. She closed her eyes tight, felt the cold rain lash against her fur, and hit solid earth with a loud 'thump'. One moment. Two moments. Breath pulled from her lungs, shaky and unsure. Mismatched eyes stayed firmly shut as her other senses came back to her, one by one. Was this heaven? Perhaps her pathetic inability to be cruel had spared her from the wrath of the Living God? It would take many more moments for her to realize that she could feel wind and rain ruffle her fur. Trying to move or stand would only lead to aches she had no way to soothe. All she could do was, slowly, open her eyes. This wasn't the desert, that was for sure. Where was she? Was it really heaven? Blinking, she tried to look around and steady her painful breathing. No words left, and nor was she able to notice who or what she might be nearby. Osamu RE: Little white flowers - Osamu - 8/19/2026
Accompanied only by the soft patter of rain and the sound of his own thoughts, Osamu padded forward almost mechanically. Perhaps when he returned to Queen's Rest he might approach one of their healers for a few lessons in herbology, for the more time passed, the more drenched and uncomfortable his heavy coat became - and the more hopeless the venture seemed. This had not been planned well. Little white flowers, he thought irritably. Surrounded by acres of bindweed in full bloom, he could have pulled up a hundred little white-flowered plants and still been no closer to finding anything useful. THUD Osamu nearly leapt out of his own skin, bristling insinctively. Something had materialized and fallen from the sky not several yards away, and he stared ahead at the mass with wide eyes as he struggled to understand what - or rather, who - the lump was. ... Miss?he managed at last, having regained some level of composure. What on earth had just happened? Osamu crept forward to better assess the wolf for injury. Are you - alright? He'd be shocked if she was. RE: Little white flowers - Silence - 8/20/2026 The voice came to her, muffled by the grass on one side. Silence blinked slowly, trying still to get her bearings. The fall was only part of the pain, as however long she had run for presented on her body still. Still. She could see, somewhat. She tried to move her head, to get a better look at the owner of the voice. ‘Are you alright?’ he said. Sounded like a he, at least. Her mind worked slowly, before the information collapsed on it like a snare- and she could feel tears welling. Her body shook as violently as it could, with what little energy she had left, as she slowly opened her mouth. “I-“ was all she could get out, before a cough ripped through her. Shockwaves of pain reverberated and the tears fell, as fear took over. The grey woman had fully overdone it. Her body could not handle the amount of non-stop running coupled with the fall. She was far too tired, and yet, could still feel fear. Was he a Taxman? Had they caught up to her? Was the concern in his tone only illusion, lulling her into a false sense of relief? The worries compounded. Her crying didn’t stop, but there was nothing she could do. She simply didn’t have the strength left to run anymore. All she could do was push out more words, each one shaky and pleading. “D-don’t..” she began. “Hurt.. me…” they scratched against her throat, tears and salvia mixing with the rain. “Please..” she begged. The one thing Silence shouldn’t have done was all she could do now, and that irony was not lost on her. Eyes stayed open as her breathing went more rapid, despite the strain it put on her. The grey woman waited for her judgement. Osamu |
