Fall had passed uneventfully, which Osamu considered a great blessing. The Fujiwara clan still needed time yet to heal from Grimwald's treachery, but at least they had escaped - returning the Empress and her companion safely back to their territory where they could gather their strength and recover from the horrible treatment they had endured.
How foolish, he thought bitterly, that he had not known them to be hidden away so close to home. The pair had all but been right under their noses next door, tortured and starving for months on end - he could hardly forgive himself.
It was only with great self-will that the Samurai gradually managed to tear himself away from Queen's Rest long enough to hunt for prey, remaining ever-vigilant lest another tragedy befall their ranks. He much preferred patrolling their borders, but duty called, and with winter came hungry mouths and scarce food.
Osamu frowned.
Never again would such foul intent escape his notice.
He stalked the underbrush of the Wakes, head lowered and nose to the ground as he sought out the trail of something, anything to bring back for the clan; he had been lucky a few times with smaller game before, but today...
Nothing.
Lifting his head to the morning sky, Osamu breathed a ragged sigh.
