The Runes swirled overhead in a vast arc and slowly converged as Alder watched in stunned silence. This time he could see the Voice from what he now knew were visions, the incorporeal Visitor who had plagued the dreams of every wolf in Mythris with ill portent and words of doom - and now it had all come down to a singular moment.
Choose.
The Isle roared in the distance, and he could see a blue shimmer within the third door as faint silhouettes moved in what looked to be a dark chamber; he thought he could recognize some of them. The Dream Visitor's tale had shaken Alder. In some ways, he knew what it was like to be left behind, to be considered an afterthought, and without thinking he immediately stepped forward to walk through that cursed portal and answer the call -
But a glimmer of gold caught his eye in one of the other doors.
Sølvi.
For a fleeting moment he looked between the open doorways, sparing a glance toward the Dream Visitor and his ghostly visage which remained devoid of any emotion beyond profound regret.
The spirit could handle his own mistakes.
Alder stepped through the second portal, toward the glimmering gold.
I'm here,he said, immediately beside Solvi. A wraith, seeing movement, lunged toward them and he snapped reflexively at the air to ward it off, hackles raised as he fully realized the chaos around them. The Dream Visitor had his own shit to deal with; his regrets were not Alder's responsibility, and if the Isle's wrath destroyed the world around them, at least he would be here with her when it happened.
Nowhere else.
