Maggot didn't want to be here, but it wasn't on fire like home was, but it wasn't home. It wasn't the territory she knew, it wasn't the hills and forests she learned to call home. These trees were red like fire, they sat high and terrifying, and she could barely move without the stinging of her skin splitting in areas where it'd dried out. This sucked, and she didn't like it, she wouldn't be able to run if another dog came, or a coyote..whatever those beasts were.
She slowly sank to her stomach, crawling towards a tree to lean against it, her feathered tail coming to curl around her side, resting against her burned skin to shield it from the cold air. Where was she..why did it have to be so cold? Though, cold meant there was no fire near, or the remains of one.
The approaching steps had her head on a swivel, ears turning and tilting in the direction till she saw the figure slowly creep out of the shadows, at first, she was terrified, her heart like a drum in her chest, beating like it might rattle right out of her but as she saw the lowered head, the softer body language, she slowly calmed down.
There..there was- a fire, it..took everyone,
A hoarse voice, still raw from the smog of the fire, her throat still ached from it, she wasn't comfortable, she ached all over and just wanted it to stop entirely.
