Life had just begun, and Halo did not find much to cry about, aside from when she needed something. Food, attention, warmth...

So perhaps it was often that she did, in fact, cry, but to her, all was well in the world. Her world. Small as it was so far, but it was warm, and it was hers.

For now, she slept, tucked against the belly where milk came, pleased to be still and down amongst bodies just as warm as hers. Noisy, too.

Sounds were just that. Voices from mother and father were gibberish, and the keening sounds beside her blended into her own.

There was one beside her, one she found herself drawn to despite knowing nothing at all. Where he wriggled, she followed. When his nose found her, she did what she could to follow it blindly, squeaking but willingly. When he cried, she joined in. When he slept, she tucked her rounded head against him until she, too, succumbed to slumber beside him.
