His morning was idle. Some might consider it lazy, but Heh … well, Heh used this idle time for observation. It was likely strange to most, to see a puppy move with such intentional slowness. Especially when compared with the activity and hostility of his siblings. But Heh did not mind being placed into a box all his own.

A gold-rimmed paw lingered idly in the sand, sliding through the grains and drawing nonsense lines and irregular shapes. His ears were pressed forward, dual toned eyes watching the way the grit moved away from his paw.

The ocean roared in the distance, the yawning of the tide gradually growing louder as the ocean swelled. The sun shone overhead, warming the dark fur of his back.

Eventually, Heh’s idle motions became more purposeful, and he would take both of his front paws and begin to dig. Sand sprayed, and he would descend for a little while until the sand became cool and damp.

And then, with a mighty heave, he would toss his tiny body into the hole and enjoy the coolness of the ocean water as it soaked into his skin.

A yawn escaped his lips as the cool water seeped through his dense coat and tickled his skin. It was a pleasant reprieve; a stark contrast to the heat of the sky, to be in his tiny, damp hole. And for a while, he was quite content there. The boy's eyes would drift shut, but he would keep his little ears perked at attention, doing his best to remain both at rest and alert all at the same time.

But had he dozed off?

Shit.

"Wet."

Heh's eyes bounced open, head flicking upward with a stark twitch. Twin eyes landed on little Kauket, and his ears flicked backwards for a moment, a rare display of embarrassment to be caught snoozing in a hole. But he did not aim to move, instead leaning into his position. Room for you, he'd offer, scooching over in the hole and making a Very-Small-But-Still-Kauket-Sized spot next to him in his sandy hideaway.

He would blink upward at Kauket — this was the only time she'd ever been taller than him.

It was an interesting perspective.

Comin' in? Heh would smile slightly as he tempted his sister, taking a paw and patting sloppily at the wet sand. He tempted her closer as if his hole was the greatest thing on the island.
